As Helpers of God's Precious Infants, we stand with Mary before the innumerable crosses on which Her Son is still crucified at today's calvaries in the slaughter of innocent, defenseless unborn children - today's Holy Innocents.

Monsignor Philip Reilly, founder of the Helpers of God's Precious Infants, deliberately called the unborn child, an infant, because the word 'infant' literally means 'not able to speak'. The word 'infants' is descriptive then of the unborn who cannot speak. The Helpers are called then to speak for the infants whose lives are unjustly threatened but whose voices cannot be heard.

We all must come to recognize the human person in everyone who is victimized, rejected, abandoned, and defenseless in the worldwide community. This cannot be accomplished if we do not firstly recognize and protect the most defenseless among us – the unborn. Not until we have done all in our power to end the abomination of abortion worldwide by peaceful measures, can we hope to see a measure of peace in the world.

Invitation to Christians

Each of us is called to represent Christ to others and to be his instrument of love, mercy, and peace. Although each of us may encounter different ways of embracing that calling, all of us should open our minds and hearts to a multitude of opportunities. Each of us should reflect on how we represent the mind and heart of Christ with regard to the sanctity of life and the evil of abortion. Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me... Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me. (Mt 25:40,45)

What makes abortion so abominable is that it kills. No matter what procedure is used nor whether it is surgical or chemical, a life is snuffed out. Someone’s future eliminated. A pre-born infant, child, adolescent, adult - a person - is deprived of its very existence in the physical realm. Can any deed be more anti-Christian?

Unfortunately, there are a great many places throughout this land, which we continually ask God to bless, where his precious infants are put to death in horrific numbers and in horrific ways. These killing centers present us with daily opportunities to represent Christ with the intent to save lives and souls.

We can be defenders of God’s precious infants as we pray for them and their parents. We can pray for the conversion of their parents that they will say "yes" to the life created by God and entrusted to their care. We can offer counseling and practical assistance to parents. We can pray for the conversion of the abortionists and their staff and all who support them in any way. We can pray for the conversion of those who live or work in the area or who pass by and who are anti-life or ambivalent. We can pray for God's forgiveness and mercy.

For those babies who will die, we can remain with them at these modern day Calvarys, as Mary and John did at the foot of the Cross, and offer what might be the only human love they will have encountered during their very short lives. We can pray that God be with them before and during the time of their death, and that, in his Blessed Triune Name - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - and with the tears of Our Lady of Sorrows, He baptize them and carry the sacred souls of these Holy Innocents to Heaven.

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ, I pray that you may be open in mind and in heart to "listen to Him" and I invite you to defend the unborn.
